Modification and Laboratory Evaluation of a Shipboard Multifunctional Waste Incinerator (MFI), Phase II.

Abstract

This report describes vibrational testing and identifies recommended changes to a multifunctional waste incinerator (MFI) intended for use on seagoing vessels as an alternative for overboard discharge of potentially harmful waste. The testing reported completes the third part of Phase II testing, laboratory evaluation of a land-based system. Vibrational testing was completed on both 0 degs. and 90 degs. transverse axes in addition to the vertical axis. The modified MFI operated as required and withstood the vibrational testing environment. Modifications, especially in the use of aluminachromic oxide plastic refractory in the sewage chamber, proved satisfactory. Some design changes are recommended for easier disassembly and greater structural integrity. (Author)
