Use of Decoder Information for Detection of Start and End of Transmission in the ANDVT HF Modem

Abstract

Algorithms have been developed for determining the start-of-transmission and end-of-transmission for the ANDVT HF modem. Use is made of statistical characteristics of the error patterns in the soft decision decoder for the Golay (24,12) code and are adaptive to the signal conditions, providing superior performance over the use of signal-to-noise estimates in the presence of narrowband interference.
