Synthesis and Properties of Model Aromatic Polyimide Systems

Abstract

In an effort to investigate the hydrolytic stability of completely aromatic polymides a series of model polymeric imide structures have been synthesized. The materials consist of oligomeric thermoset systems and high molecular polymers. Equivalent backbone structures were synthesized differing only in respect to the size of the imide ring. It is anticipated that the utilization of the model systems prepared will establish the hydrolytic stability of aromatic polyimides.
