Determination of the Orientation and Gain of Horizontal Geophones Used in Ocean Bottom Seismometers.

Abstract

Ocean-bottom seismometers have become valuable tools for investigating shallow and deep earth structure. However, to expand their potential, we have developed an easy and reliable method to transform 2-axis horizontal data into radial-transverse plots. Orientation of the horizontal geophones is necessary and can be accomplished accurately if a circle of shots is fired within the range of direct water wave arrivals. (Author)
