Abstract

The maintenance of a 9-foot channel for waterborne commerce is essential for a strong Upper Midwest economy; however, to insure that the interests of the total river resources are considered, a channel maintenance plan was developed. Besides selecting disposal sites and formulating recommendations to reduce the overall impact of dredged material operations, other issues addressed are: recreation, wildlife, water quality, sediment and erosion and floodplain management.
