Service Evaluation of Airborne Tire Pressure Indicating Systems.

Abstract

Results of the in-service evaluation on tire pressure indicating systems are reported in this document. Two systems, one made by Goodyear and the other by Fairchild, were evaluated on two McDonnell Douglas DC-10's from March of 1980 to May of 1981. The Goodyear system employs the copper-graphite-copper journal bearing technique while the Fairchild system uses the inductive coupling (air gap transformer) method. A detailed test evaluation is included for each of the systems tested. Based on the in-service performance, the Fairchild system was selected as the production system.
