Preliminary Field Report on the Findings and Results of the Evaluation of the Cultural and Historical Resources of the Las Cruces Arroyo Lithic Site (EPCM 32:106:10:3) in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

Abstract

The purpose of this evaluation of the Las Cruces Arroyo Lithic Site, El Paso Centennial Museum number 32:106:10:3, has been to evaluate the cultural and historical resources of the site and to make recommendations relative to their conservation prior to the destruction of the site as a result of the construction of the Las Cruces Dam, a part of the Las Cruces Local Protection Project of the U.S. Corps of Engineers. As a result of the test excavations reported here it is concluded that the evidence of occupation is quite shallow sparcely distributed over the site and that further excavation is not warranted.
