Penitente Architecture at the Mouth of Long Canyon, Las Animas County, Colorado,

Abstract

Activities associated with the construction of the Trinidad Dam and Reservoir destroyed what remained of a Penitente morada (meeting house), church and large freestanding wooden cross in September 1971. The nearby Longsdale Cemetery was re-located outside the Reservoir area. The following architectural descriptions are based upon observations and measurements made by the authors in July 1971.
