A Case Study in Writing Efficient Programs.

Abstract

The time and space performance of a computer program rarely matter, but when they do they can be of crucial importance to the success of the overall system. This paper discusses the performance issues that arose in the implementation of a small system (twelve programs, two thousand lines of code) for a small business. The paper emphasizes a general methodology for improving system performance; the details of the case study show how the general techniques are applied in a particular context. (Author)
