Intelligent Interpretation of 3-D Imagery.

Abstract

This report documents the research efforts of Advanced Information & Decision Systems (AI&DS) to develop three-dimensional (3-D) object classification techniques for vehicle targets in air-to-ground laser range imagery. The authors emphasize an artificial intelligence (AI) approach to intelligently interpret laser imagery in terms of 3-D symbolic models. The full classification system includes 3-D image feature extraction, geometric modeling, model prediction, and feature-to-model matching. This report discusses new techniques for implmenting these major system components, and provides overall conclusions and discussion about the feasibility of developing an automated 3-D object classification system.
