Photographic Smoke Analysis of the T56 Engine.

Abstract

This report presents the results of flight tests performed to evaluate exhaust plume visibility of a C-130-H Aircraft powered by four Allison T56-A-15 engines. Measurements of the smoke densities were made using calibrated photographic methods and visual emission readings. The photographic images were photometrically analyzed to produce plume transmission maps that were compared to engine Smoke Numbers and visual opacity readings. A visible/invisible threshold ranging between Engine Smoke Numbers from 33 to 48 was found. (Author)
