Effects of Test Medium and Base Shape on Hydrodynamic Characteristics of Submersibles,

Abstract

This report describes an investigation into the effects of base shape and test medium on pitching moment and normal force coefficients of a submersible model with control surfaces. The model was tested with a conical and a tangent-ogive base in both air and water in the NEAR wind/water facility. No significant effects of test medium were found. Results of moment and force coefficients versus angle of attack varying from -3 to +15 degrees are given (Author).
