Software Technology for Adaptable Reliable Systems (STARS). Functional Task Area Strategy for Acquisition.

Abstract

The purpose of this task area is to improve existing acquisition procedures, regulations, business practices and incentives relating to software acquisition, and to remove impediments in the acquisition process currently hindering efficient software development and support. The specific goals and objectives of the Acquisition Task Area are the improvement of all business and contract related policies and practices, attainment of a higher degree of uniformity in the application of acquisition policies and practices; and an improvement of the tools associated with the acquisition of systems and software in order to streamline, simplify and accelerate the acquisition process; and to foster a more effective DoD contractor relationship. Major emphasis is to be placed on computer software associated with mission critical applications and embedded computer systems, and the integration of this software with the surrounding hardware.
