Theory Z Management. Can It Be Used Effectively in the Air Force?

Abstract

Theory Z is a management system designed for use in the United States that combines features of Japanese and American management techniques. Currently, several American companies are applying it successfully. This paper investigates the feasibility of using Theory Z to improve Air Force management, particularly in the human resources area. Each major principle of the theory is described and then applied notionally to the Air Force, noting the expected results. Because it appears to have merit, the paper recommends further Theory Z consideration by the Air Force leadership. (Author)
