Rumford and the Teapots - Demonstration of the Formation of Thermal Images,

Abstract

A modern version of an experiment originally performed by Count Rumford is described. This enables us to demonstrates some of the factors concerned in the formation of thermal images. The images obtained with a pyroelectric vidicon thermal imager are compared with the visible images to demonstrate the effects of the surface characteristics of the objects in the scene. Demonstrations of transmission and reflection effects using a modified Leslie cube are also included. (Author)
