Development of Automated Detection and Discrimination Techniques for Use at Regional to Teleseismic Distances.

Abstract

The resolution of the seismic sensors discussed in this report is limited either by the self-noise of the system or the ambient ground noise at the observing site. The resolution limits of a particular system are frequency-dependent. A major objective of the designer is to insure that seismic sensors are available which will be limited in resolution only by the ambient background noise at the quietest sites over the frequency band of interest in treaty verification research. This report presents a review of the data currently available on the limiting resolution of the most advanced instruments used in this research program. (Author)
