TRADOC Follow-Up Report to Observations Noted during JRX GALLANT KNIGHT 82 and JRX GALLANT EAGLE 82.
Abstract
Exercise GALLANT KNIGHT 82 was a Joint Chiefs of Staff coordinated command post exercise (CPX) sponsored by United States Readiness Command (USREDCOM). The exercise was conducted at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, from 23 January to 2 February 1982. It was an exercise for the Rapid Deployment Joint Task Force and its components. Exercise GALLANT EAGLE 82 was a Joint Chiefs of Staff coordinated field training exercise (FTX) and command post exercise (CPX) sponsored by USREDCOM. The exercise was conducted in two phases: Phase I (30-31 March 82): Tactical Deployment Phase. This phase was not part of the exercise scenario. Airborne airdrop/airland operations occurred at Ft Irwin, CA. Phase II (1-6 April 82): The FTX/CPX included live ARFOR, AFFOR, and MARFOR forces at Ft Irwin and Twenty-nine Palms, CA, as well as full CPX play at the major headquarters. The intent of this report is the identification, follow-up, and resolution of TRADOC issues surfaced during each exercise. Sections II and III of this report contain the follow-up status of observations noted during JRX GALLANT KNIGHT 82 and GALLANT EAGLE 82. The term observation is intentionally used to enable field concerns to be informally addressed. As such, observations do not necessarily represent command positions, but provide a sensing of the field perceptions. This report has been edited to eliminate redundancy and establish proponency for actions that fall within TRADOC's area of responsibility.
