A High Technology Military Postal Service.

Abstract

Mail to military personnel overseas is delivered essentially in the same way it was during World War I. The use of electronic mail has been growing in private industry and the United States Postal Service recently began an international application of electronic mail. The new technology offers military postal planners the opportunity to overcome a persistent problem--the competition for air or sealift space. Personal mail--heavy and bulky must compete for space with vital supplies and replacements. An electronic version of World War II 'V-mail' will be tested in REFORGER 83. If successful, the test will be the first step in the journey to an electronic military mail service. (Author)
