Safety Analysis of Modifications to Upgrade the Reactor Ventilation System at Armed Forces Radiobiology Research Institute.

Abstract

This report describes the proposed changes to the ventilation system of the reactor building at the Armed Forces Radiobiology Research Institute (AFRRI) in Bethesda, Maryland. Classified as a Safety Analysis Report that meets the requirements of the Code of Federal Regulations (Title 10, Part 50.59), this document provides the basis for the author's conclusion that the changes to the system involve no unreviewed safety questions and, in fact, improvements in the radiological safety at AFRRI. In order to accomplish these changes, certain other changes must be made to AFRRI administrative documents. Included here are excerpts from the administrative documents and the changes to be made to them. Minutes of a meeting of the Reactor and Radiation Facility Safety Committee (of AFRRI) confirm the fact that the Committee has reviewed this report and has concurred with it.
