Cloud/Clear/Snow Analysis Based on Satellite Data

Abstract

This technical note describes an automated cloud/clear/snow analysis technique that was developed at the Air Force Global Weather Central (AFGWC) to evaluate the performance of the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP) Snow/Cloud Special Sensor (SSC). The evaluation demonstrated that cloud/clear/ snow areas could be analyzed with a high degree of reliability.
