Hazardous Materials/Hazardous Waste Strategy.

Abstract

This report outlines a proposed R&D program for developing technology that Army installations can use to carry out Department of Defense requirements for hazardous materials/hazardous waste management. The proposed program emphasizes research in the following six areas: (1) development of a Hazardous Materials Management System, (2) development of hazard elimination and minimization techniques, (3) application of spill control/cleanup technology for use at military installations, (4) development of methods to control or treat leachate, (5) evaluation of hazardous waste disposal options, and (6) development of biotechnology methods to neutralize or consume certain types of wastes.
