The Effect of Moisture on the Properties of an Aramid/Epoxy Composite
Abstract
An investigation has been carried out concerning the effects of moisture on the mechanical properties of a unidirectionally reinforced Kevlar/ epoxy composite. The matrix chosen was a so-called high performance epoxy- Fiberite 934. It consists primarily of tetraglycidyl-methylene dianaline (TGMDA) cured with diaminodiphenyl sulfone (DDS) at 177 C (350 F). The material was characterized by liquid chromatography, differential scanning calorimetry, torsional braid analysis, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, in order to assure continuity with future work.
