Design and Fabrication of a Prototype Tracer Surveillance Tester

Abstract

Princeton Combustion Research Laboratories, Inc., has designed a test fixture for functional testing of M-13 tracers for large caliber ammunition as an alternative to ballistic firing acceptance and surveillance tests. This ia an attractive approach provided that ballistic flight functioning is properly simulated insofar as is practical and necessary. The test fixture provides for diagnostic evaluation of failure modes at high spin rate in a rapid pressurization and depressurization environment simulating muzzle exit by means of burn-time measurement.
