Soviet News and Propaganda Analysis Based on RED STAR (The Official Newspaper of the Soviet Defense Establishment) for the Period 1-31 May 1983. Volume 3, Number 5.
Abstract
The data in this report reflects Soviet print media emphasis and propaganda trends for four years -- June 1979 through May 1983. During this period, almost 50,000 feature stories and news items were analyzed. However, the main purpose of this edition is to provide the reader with an overview of Soviet rhetoric, propaganda themes and topics directed to Russian military forces during May 1983. During May 1983, almost 31 percent of Red Star's total space devoted to international events and/or foreign affairs concerned (or was related to) activities of the United States government. In the past, the average amount of print space allocated to the United States was approximately 29 percent of the total coverage (in Red Star) for foreign news. (Author)
