The Computerization of Material Safety Data Sheet Information

Abstract

FORTRAN computer programs were written in order to store and retrieve material safety data sheet (MSDS) information. The first program is used to add individual MSDS information to the master file whereas the second program allows the master file to be printed. The third and fourth programs allows for manipulation of the data in the master file such as searching and matching for specific information within the different information categories. Under development are programs used to extract certain data from the hazardous materials information system (HMIS) and incorporate them into our own MSDS system. When completed, our on-line hazardous compound records will number approximately 16,000.
