Decentralized Control of Scheduling in Distributed Systems.

Abstract

This fifth quarterly report incluses two technical papers. The first paper deals with three algorithms that could be utilized to control tasks/job scheduling in distributed systems. Using a simulation approach, insight into the performance and stability of decentralized job control scheduling algorithms is demonstrated. The second paper provides a survey of current research directions in distributed systems software. Research in distributed operating systems, languages and data bases is covered, and important research questions for distributed system softwere are posed. (Author)
