Knowledge Representation and Retrieval for Natural Language Processing,

Abstract

The investigators are building a computer system called ARGOT that acts as a computer operator conversing with a computer user. Since performance in this domain requires ARGOT to have efficient access to a large body of diverse knowledge, a major part of their research effort has been focussed on issues of knowledge representation and retrieval. This paper describes ARGOT's representation language, the retriever used to access a knowledge base of sentences of the language, and how their design has been influenced by the task domain and system organization.
