TAC II An Expert Knowledge Based System for Tactical Decision Making.

Abstract

There exists a genuine need for a tactical decision making system within the Department of Defense for the small scale environment tactical decision maker. To this end, we propose TAC*II, a prototypical system for tactical decision making, to be implemented as a distributed system on microcomputers. TAC*II is a redesign and partial implementation of an expert Artificial Intelligence system proposed by previous Naval Postgraduate School students. The system receives preprocessed sensor inputs, determines what contacts are present, and suggests the best possible actions to take. It performs target analysis and correlation based on the current tactical situation. Production rules are used to discover which actions have been established by higher authority for the current tactical situation. A pattern matching algorithm provides a heuristic means of identifying similar known situations, and suggests actions to take based on those situations. (Author)
