Feasibility Study for an Air Force Environmental Model and Data Exchange. Volume 1. Model and Data Requirements with Recommendations.

Abstract

The study assess Air Force needs and capabilities for environmental consequences modeling, Air Force model application capabilities, and proposes resources available to overcome identified deficiencies. Needs for environmental information and analytical techniques were studied, and strategies proposed by which the modeling capabilities could evolve toward a comprehensive environmental information network, user community, and data exchange. The recommended information network would be known as the 'Air Force Environmental Model and Data Exchange' (AFEDEX). The technical report consists of four volumes. This report presents Volume 1: MODEL AND DATA REQUIREMENTS WITH RECOMMENDATIONS. The study recommends evolution of a computer-based network to enhance Air Force access and exchange of environmental information, and to match models with required data sources for effective application. The AFEMDEX network development is proposed in three evolutionary stages: (1) coordination; (2) information exchange; and (3) networking.
