Advanced Structural Concepts for Weapons Storage - Flat and Mountainous Terrains.

Abstract

The development of more complex modern weapons requires that the Department of Defense design weapons storage facilities that incorporate stringent operations, survivability, security, and safety criteria. These facilities must be adaptable to different terrains, equipped to deal with natural or man-induced disasters, and require minimal construction and maintenance costs. This study has developed 12 concepts for a modern weapons storage area and evaluated them in terms of these essential criteria. From these 12 concepts, six were chosen which rated highest during the evaluation. These concepts are recommended for further development. (Author)
