Proton Electrostatic Analyzer.

Abstract

A multichannel proton electrostatic analyzer has been developed to monitor spacecraft charging by observing changes in the energy spectrum of the proton flux incident on the spacecraft. The analyzer uses electrostatic deflection plates to select incident ions within each energy band for detection by a channel electron multiplier. Command, control, input and output channel and mode selection, count accumulation, and processing are provided by a microprocessor under firmware control from replaceable programmable memories.
