Metropolitan Washington Area Water Supply Study. Main Report. Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia.

Abstract

The purposes of the Metropolitan Washington Area Water Supply Study were to: provide a comprehensive examination of applicable demand reduction and water supply measures; formulate plans for satisfying regional water shortages; and identify viable solutions for implementation, either by Federal or non-Federal entities. The planning horizon was defined to be the period between year 1980 and year 2030. The level of detail developed in the following report is generally of feasibility scope and is intended to identify potential solutions. The report has not been prepared as a detailed authorization document that recommends specific projects for implementation. Systematic comparisons were made of various plans in terms of technical feasibility; economic, environmental, social, and cultural impacts; implementation arrangements; and public acceptability.
