Manufacturing Methods and Technology Program Plan, CY 1983,

Abstract

The MMT Program Plan, CY 1983, provides within a single source a summary of current and near-term efforts (FY83-FY87) included in the DARCOM MMT Program. Since weapons systems requirements and the technology for these systems are constantly changing, inclusion in the Program Plan is not a guarantee that an individual project will be funded. However, the Plan does serve as an indicator of the areas towards which DARCOM's resources will be directed and the magnitude of the Army's commitment to this program. The Manufacturing Methods and Technology (MMT) Program serves the US Army Materiel Development and Readiness Command (DARCOM) as a bridge between research and development and production. The program's primary aim is to reduce the cost of weapons system acquisition by improving the efficiency of manufacturing processes and by implementing new technology. Although cost reduction is a primary concern, the emphasis is also directed toward efforts reducing air and water pollution, increasing safety, conserving energy, reducing dependency on critical material, improving productibility and increasing productivity.
