Large Plate CdTe Synthesis by Sealed Vessel Transport.

Abstract

The seventh quarterly technical report for the program to grow large plates of high purity CdTe in a sealed system covers the period July 1 - Sept. 30, 1983. A process to grow up to 10 inch dia. plates of high purity CdTe with large grain size has been developed. Evaluation results from other workers have confirmed the purity and high resistivity of the resultant materials. Plates have been grown from both tellurium rich and near stoichiometric melt compositions. Optical absorption coefficients at 10 microns as low as .06 cm have been measured. A wire saw has been put into operation for substrate wafering and a helium-neon laser is now being used for optical orientation of large area single crystals.
