A Digital Filter Representation of the ASQ-81 Magnetometer

Abstract

A digital filter representation of the ASQ-81 magnetometer is derived from the s-plane transfer functions of the system through the use of a bilinear transformation. A FORTRAN computer program is written which applies this representation to time-sampled total magnetic field data in order to obtain a time seris representation of ASQ-81 filtered total field. A series of simulations and a field experiment are conducted which verify the program output. Applications of this program include usage in conjunction with geomagnetic field data in order to produce a new data set representative of geomagnetic noise observed by Navy MAD (Magnetic Anomaly Detection) aircraft with the potential to investigate techniques of reducing geomagnetic noise in MAD aircraft.
