Assessment of Real Gas Effects on the Prediction of the Aerodynamics of High Velocity Army Shells.

Abstract

The present study assesses real gas effects in the prediction of flow- fields over Army projectiles. Solutions are obtained for a spherically tipped cone-cylinder model flying at three different flight conditions. Real gas effects may be important for the pressure and heat transfer on the spherical tip. Real gas effects are not important for the prediction of pressure and heat transfer on the region of the model aft of the spherical tip.
