Multi-Ducted Inlet Combustor Research and Development.

Abstract

Flow visualization studies and fluid flow residence time measurements were conducted of a dual inlet side dump combustor configuration utilizing the Water Tunnel test rig of the Ramjet Technology Branch AFWAL/PORT Wright-Patterson AFB, OH. Tests were conducted of the side dump combustor for inlet duct angles of 30, 45, and 60 degrees and for combustor dome plate positions from 0 to 6 inches forward of the inlet ducts. The nozzle area to combustor area ratio for all testing was 0.29. Tests were conducted with total flow rates of 200, 300, and 400 gals. per min. to give inlet duct Reynolds numbers of 125,640, 188,400 and 251,300 respectively. Preliminary visual observation investigations were also conducted of gas generator and symmetry flows. Engineering and technical support provided to other ramjet combustor test rigs of the Ramjet Technology Branch are detailed. (Author)
