Archaeological Reconnaissance of the Oliver Lock and Dam Project Area, Tuscaloosa County, Alabama. Phase I.

Abstract

A documentary and literature search and archaeological reconnaissance of 1,100 acres on the Black Warrior River located in Alabama. This document summarizes the prehistory, ethnohistory, and history of the region and includes a consideration of the particular historical importance of the survey area. A model of the Holocene terraces geomorphology was developed to discuss settlement patterns. Forty-nine archaeological sites were discovered thirty-nine of which required no further investigations.
