A Refined Model for Radar Homing Intercepts.

Abstract

In this report, we extend a simple graphical model for analyzing radar homing interceptor engagements 1 to include the radome refraction error effect and a refined miss distance estimator. The residual radome error is treated as an additive exponentially correlated noise with correlation time equal to the interceptor response time. The miss distance is estimated as the error in predicting the target cross-range position at intercept at the range where the interceptor divert capability becomes just insufficient to correct the distance difference between the previous and the current predicted intercept points. The analytical and numerical results show that the prediction error is a strong function of the correlation time and the effect of correlation generally increases the achieveable miss distance especially when the interceptor response time is large.
