Effects of Environmental or Storage Condition Effects on Radiographic Film.

Abstract

This report covers the approach, procedures and technique employed in evaluating sensitivity and base plus fog in old and new radiographic films stored in simulated tropical, desert, artic and ambient environments. A simple field test for film qualification is described and a design for the step wedge used in the test is included. Also included is a description of a laboratory test for film noise using electronic scanning of an optical image to determine frequency content of this image. Recommendations are made for extension of film life through testing, as well as recommended storage and shipping conditions for life extension.
