Biophysics of Inert Gases Related to Diving.

Abstract

One of the main aims of this research is to understand from first principles what determines the solubility of a gas in liquid. In order to make this general and difficult problem more tractable, experiments studied the solubility of the inert gas Xe in simple liquids. One of the first experimental systems studied was Xe gas in water-sucrose solutions. The principal system which studied, is the solubility of Xe gas in normal-alkanes.
