The Physics of Second Breakdown.

Abstract

This report details the phenomenology of Second Breakdown in semiconductor materials. This phenomenology is then investigated and explained in the light of solid state physics and known experimental results. The similarity between Second Breakdown and current controlled negative resistance is shown to lead to the conclusion that current and thermal mode breakdown is explained by plasma injection.
