Applications of Composite Materials in Helicopter Construction (Les Applications des Materiaux Composite dans la Construction des Helicopteres),

Abstract

(U)State-of-the-art technology regarding the various fiber reinforced plastec composites being used in the fabrication of helicopter components is reviewed. The mechanical and flexural properties of graphite fiber, Kevlar and fiberglass reinforced composites and of sandwich structures using these materials were compared to each other. The relationship of their properties to their weight savings benefit, and comparison to using metal alloys is discussed. (LS-PL).
