Time Map Maintenance.

Abstract

This paper describes a mechanism for dealing with the representation of events and their effects occurring in and over time. The mechanism, which I refer to as a time map manager, is shown to be useful in problem solvers requiring an ability to reason about time and causality. In addition to describing the theory and its implementation I will demonstrate a programming technique and related discipline based upon the use of data dependencies. This technique supports the design of complex control structures capable of recording the conditions under which information is stored and subsequently responding in highly directed ways when those conditions are changed.
