System Identification of a Pharmacokinetic Model for Air Force Applications.

Abstract

Methods for enhancing the parameter estimation process of pharmacokinetic models were examined and implemented for the Air Force Aerospace Medical Research Laboratory (AFAMRL). The Open Chamber Hexane Model was the primary focus. Optimization algorithms were developed and used to estimate the unknown parameters in order that the model match closely with the experimental data. A sensitivity analysis was then conducted in two parts. First, the sensitivity of the estimated parameters to the error criterion was examined. Second, the use of sensitivity functions in designing future experiments was demonstrated. Finally, recommendations were provided for AFAMRL concerning future attempts in parameter estimation.
