Performance Feedback: A Review of Its Psychological and Behavioral Effects

Abstract

An extensive review of the performance feedback literature led to the presentation of a feedback model which stresses the psychological processes intervening feedback and responses to the feedback. The literature was reviewed in light of the characteristics of feedback which have been found to influence the psychological processes. The tone of the review is directed toward identifying characteristics of feedback which may lead to more effective use of feedback to members of on-going, task-oriented organizations.
