Fundamental Properties of Soils for Complex Dynamic Loadings; Dynamic Constitutive Model Fundamentals.

Abstract

This report discussed the physical basis for the equations describing the dynamic response of a saturated soil. Next, the principal stress-strain features which a soil constitutive model may have to reproduce are reviewed. Finally, the basic equations of elastoplasticity are derived, existing failure criteria are reviewed, and a new failure criterion is presented.
