After Action Review Guidebook I: National Training Center

Abstract

The After Action Review Guidebook contains procedures for preparation and conduct of AARs at platoon, company, and battalion levels at the National Training Center (NTC). Procedures are presented in lesson-plan outline format and take into account: the amount and types of information likely to be available to each echelon's AAR leader; the capabilities, configuration and essential operational characteristics of the NTC; psychological and educational characteristics of learning; and current combined arms tactical doctrine. The central characteristics of the AAR are also discussed, in contrast to those of the traditional critique, along with training diagnosis methodology and AAR technique and style.
