Manufacturing Methods and Technology Engineering for 'Growth of Large Diameter Nd: YAG Laser Crystals'

Abstract

This report describes Czochralski growth experiments on a production process for Nd:YAG boules. At program start most production techniques gave a boule about 1.25 - 1.50 inch diameter and 5 - 7 inches long. A goal of 2 inches in diameter, with similar length and quality, would nearly double laser rod yield for many Army programs. All experiments were performed on standard growth stations in a production facility.
