Proposed Recruit Training Topic: Rape Awareness.

Abstract

This report presents a proposed lesson guide on rape awareness/prevention for use in Navy recruit and/or follow-on commands. Initially the focus was to identify specific concerns of fleet and follow-on training personnel which resulted in the perception of differences in male and female recruit training. This examination of the recruit training curriculum resulted in identifying topics unique to female personal security, specifically rape awareness/prevention, which was not addressed in the recruit training curriculum. This technical note contains one other section, a bibliography, and an appendix. The second section summarizes the TAEG findings on Navy educational programs on rape awareness/prevention, the educational programs of the other services, and the educational programs of civilian organizations. Recommendations and a rationale for the proposed lesson topic guide development are also given. The appendix contains the proposed lesson guide on rape awareness/prevention.
